news imageSports-ed Soccer Program Player Nathan Brown joins Lee University - Wednesday 14 May, 2008

Nathan Brown shows the importance and the progression routes of going to Junior College in the USA.

Madisonville, Tenn. - Needing to replace five starters off last year team that was ranked as high as fourth in the NAIA poll, Lee University soccer coach Henry Moyo feels he may have fill one of those voids with the recent signing of Nathan Brown out of Hiwassee College.

“We hope Nathan will be able to fill one of the spot we have open at forward,” coach Moyo commented. “He’s very quick and an aggressive player that should do very well for us.”

The Wolverhampton, England, native netted 16 goals and dished off six assists to lead Hiwassee, which was ranked 16th in the NJCAA national poll at one point last season.

The Tigers won the NJCCAA Region VII title, but had their season come to an end in the Southeast Championship when they fell 3-0 to No. 1 ranked Georgia Perimeter (19-0-2), which was on a march to the national championship game.

“Nathan has a very strong work ethic and is very good with the ball,” Hiwassee coach Walter Liszinki expressed. “When he gets the ball, he expects to score. He is a very good finisher and is almost unstoppable.”

After playing for his high school, Brown moved on to represent his county and play on the youth club level in the Willehalltown TNS-FC. “He also played for the Welsh Academy,” fellow Brit Chris Walker, a student assistant coach with Lee, explained.

“I”m looking forward to getting to play for Coach Moyo and Lee,” Brown stated. “They have a very good program and I’m glad to get this chance.”

The Flames finish last season with a 16-5-3 record and ranked 17th in the final NAIA poll after falling to Berry College in the SSAC championship match and Auburn University Montgomery in the Region XIII final.

The Flames must replace forward Ricardo Pierre-Louis, the 2007 Brine-NAIA National Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. The three-time NAIA First Team All-America honoree finished the year with 29 goals, despite missing almost a month with a leg injury. He holds the season-scoring record (33) and career scoring mark (101) at Lee.

Also gone is fellow first-team All-American midfielder Stanley Nyazamba, who combined with Pierre-Louis to lead the Flames to 53 wins and two appearances in the NAIA National Tournament over the past three years. Nyazamba also broke Lee’s season and career assist records.

Pierre-Louis was taken by the Columbus Crew in the second round (22nd pick overall) in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, while Nyazamba was drafted by the Detroit Ignition in the second round of the 2008 Major Indoor Soccer League College Draft.

Nyazamba recently signed with the Richmond Kickers of the USSF. He played a stint with the Cape Cod Crusaders of the Premier Development League (PDL).
